This term, we have undertaken our first joint project with our new partners in the International School in Toulouse. In our language classes, we have been working on writing descriptions , and so we sent them each a description we wrote of a monster (in French).  Our descriptions were accompanied by fearsome and ferocious illustrations, which we put into a presentation and shared with our friends in Toulouse.  Here’s what we sent them:

Next, we got a set of MONSTER descriptions from France – some written in French, and some in English.  The first thing we had to do was try to work out their descriptions… and then we had a go at drawing them, too.  Here are their descriptions, next to our drawings.

We didn’t look at their drawings till we’d finished our own, and then there were a few surprises in store! Here are our drawings of their monsters… alongside their own:

And here are their drawings of our monsters… perhaps we need to tighten up a bit on our descriptive writing!!!

What did we particularly enjoy about this project?

It was great fun to see what they made of our descriptions, and compare the monster drawings.

We used our French dictionaries extensively to help us understand their descriptions, and learned lots of new words in the process.

Our favourite new word was ‘noeud de papillon‘ – a bow-tie, or literally, a butterfly knot! How lovely!

We put lots of effort into our writing because it was going to be read by a real French audience!

It was a great way to practice our reading and writing skills. We always think we don’t understand French, then surprise ourselves when we do!!!

Thank you to our French friends in Toulouse for taking the time to share your work with us and help us with our learning.  We look forward to our next project!
